What to Expect at Your First Spravato® Treatment

A Simple Guide for Your First Visit

Trying something new can feel scary, especially when it’s for your mental health.
If you’re starting Spravato® (esketamine), this guide will help you know what to expect and how to feel prepared.

At Modern Experience Clinic, we’re with you every step of the way.

What Is Spravato?

Spravato® is a nasal spray made from esketamine, a form of ketamine.
It’s FDA-approved to treat:

  • Depression that hasn’t improved with other meds

  • Depression with suicidal thoughts

Spravato works differently from regular antidepressants, and it often works faster.

Before Your First Session

We’ll talk to you ahead of time to explain how everything works.
You’ll also need:

  • A plan for someone to drive you home

  • A light meal about 2 hours before your visit (don’t come hungry or too full)

  • To bring something to help you relax (music, blanket, eye mask)

We’ll take care of the rest!

When You Arrive:

Here’s what your first visit looks like:

  1. Check-In
You’ll meet our team and get settled in a quiet, private room.

  2. Vitals Check
We’ll take your blood pressure, heart rate and oxygen saturation, and make sure you feel safe and ready.

  3. Spravato Nasal Spray
You’ll spray the medicine into your nose, under our guidance.

  4. Relax & Rest
For the next 2 hours, you’ll rest in the same room.
You may feel dreamy, floaty, or sleepy. This is normal.

  5. We Monitor You
We’ll check your oxygen saturation, heart rate and blood pressure and stay nearby the whole time.

  6. After 2 Hours
If you’re feeling okay, your support person can take you home.
You can’t drive or work the rest of the day.

What Will I Feel?

Everyone is different, but many people describe:

  • Feeling calm or relaxed

  • A floaty or “weird” sensation

  • Spacing out or daydreaming

  • Some emotional thoughts or memories

  • A sense of quiet or peace

It’s not scary; it’s just different. And it doesn’t last long. You’ll feel more like yourself after a couple of hours.

Are There Side Effects?

Most are mild and go away the same day.
You might feel:

  • Dizzy or tired

  • Nauseous (we can help with this)

  • Less alert or dreamy

We’ll watch you the whole time to keep you safe.

How Often Do I Come Back?

For the first 4 weeks:
🗓️ 2 sessions each week

Then, fewer visits over time, depending on how you feel and your doctor’s plan.

You’re Not Alone

It’s normal to feel nervous. But Spravato is safe, FDA-approved, and helping many people feel better.

At The ME Clinic, we’ll make your experience calm, private, and personalized.
